James I kind of agree with everything you've said. I remember tweeting about the Wear devices and their apparent lack of evolution over current 'smartwatches' already on the market. The Pebble can give the exact same information in a note simplistic form yet, but that's just it.

That's where my point and yours converge. We don't really need this device so manufacturers have led us to the market by making it a smaller Phone device.

I recall thinking the Omate Truesmart would be the best wearable on the market due to its Stock Android OS and independent GSM radio. The truth? Its not needed....

Extended information that compliments what we can currently get from our phones is, at the absolute best, all we require unless OEMs can come up with an Apple-esque shift in our thought processes with the next generation of devices.

They work, they can add value, but for mainstream use there is little benefit.

I'll continue to use my Pebble as I use it to.turn up volume on my phone whist driving and switch tracks etc...but thisnia a niche requirement in truth.

It's interesting to see 3 take this approach with an App. I would maybe consider moving back to them at the end of the contract I'm on with EE. EE are also going to launch WiFi Calling & texting [August]. But they are doing it properly. setting up their network for it and will push out updates to phones that can support this. There wont be a need for an app & we just dial as normal.
In both cases hand over from WiFi to Cellular & Cellular to WiFi needs to be seamless with no interruptions. It'll be interesting to put this to the test.
Don't get me wrong I'm not knocking 3 for just banging out an app. It'll work just as well. Off top of my head it's probably the less expensive way of providing this service.

Very nice review, just wish HTC would bring this style of phone to the US as well. We definitely are lacking in mid range HTC devices.

As a three UK customer who lives in an edge of coverage area I'm really looking forward to this app and hope it switches seamlessly between the app when on strong wifi signal and the three network, as long as that works and it doesn't have a horrible affect on my iPhones battery I will be an even more happy three customer (already get free truly unlimited 4G LTE, Free USA roaming same plan as at home and 3G/4GLTE only no pesky 2G rubbish)

IMHO, the only thing they did wrong was that they should have given more frequent updates. Their first batch had cleared customs, so they weren't expecting any problems with the second one. It makes sense for them to first make sure they have all the information before they informed their customers, because if they where wrong, the backlash would be much higher.

Still no Chinese input support. I don't need it myself, but it seems bizarre to not support the world's largest smartphone market. Swype supports it and has for a long time, as does google.

I have the case, I love it, but it's just to be a showoff and say "Can your cover do this?" And it has worked. People are amazed by the dots, and even if the cover lacks protection safety, or has design issues, people would still buy it just for the front part alone. For more protective situations, I have a Spigen SlimArmor, which is sleek and solid.

hey, just came across this site today. the collapsing review section is super slick. makes going through the review much easy and time saving without having to skip 10 diff pages to reach the conclusion.
so about the phone. As far as I remember it lacks a capacitive menu button correct? Can't the back key be used to go back while in the app drawer? and how much screen space does the menu key band which pops up from the bottom occupy? does that band appear for all apps? Aside from that isn't the bundled headset good enough to go well with the phone's design? does it stand out as well as the phone?
also I just came across this kernel which allows you to use the htc logo(the capacitive panel beneath it) as a capacitive button which can be assigned to any of the selective function.
I am thinking of ridding my S3 for a new device, mostly an htc one, but I just feel that those novel tweaks by htc might hinder the ease of use.

Yeah when fragmentation first really cropped up (1.6 devices and 2.0 devices and 2.1 devices, etc) I wondered aloud why Google didn't piecemeal their upgrades like they are doing now. Update the keyboard independently, upgrade music player, update mms, etc.

While a new OS adds new API levels and more hardware support and such, I am glad that Google is trying to combat fragmentation and allow for more functionality on older devices.

How do I turn off that screen vectoring of portals? It's a total pain! It doesn't allow me to turn the map to the direction that I'm facing because of all those pop ups cluttering the screen. When I try to turn the map, it thinks I'm looking for a target, then it starts beeping telling me the distance of the portal. To try to turn that off is a whole series of more clicks to try to undo what simply trying to turn the map did. It's a mess! But I can't figure out how to disable that. Is it possible?

I had buy this phone because my girlfriend likes it and she has washed my brain with phrases like "if the phone you will buy doesn't work I'll let you eat".... what i can do now?
